Big 12 Rowing Championship Moves Up Starting Time for Saturday

April 28, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas rowing will compete in the 2011 Big 12 Rowing Championship Saturday against Kansas State, Oklahoma and Texas at Wyandotte County Lake in Kansas City, Kan. The Championship has moved up its start time because it has added a Second Varsity Four race.

The Big 12 Rowing Championship will now begin festivities with the National Anthem at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Second Varsity Four race at 9:40 a.m. The Second Varsity Four race will not be worth any points in determining the eventual champion.

The remaining races will still start at their original times, beginning with the Second Novice Eight Race at 10 a.m., and concluding with the First Varsity Eight race at 11:20 a.m. Following the six races, there will be a senior recognition as well as the trophy presentation at 11:50 a.m.

This will mark the second time KU has hosted the event in its three-year history as Kansas hosted the inaugural Big 12 Rowing Championship in 2009.

Kansas Athletics has launched a webpage for the Big 12 Rowing Championship at http://www.kuathletics.com/sports/w-rowing/spec-rel/big12rowing.html. The page contains the official schedule of events and lane assignments as well as the scoring system that will be used to determine the 2011 Big 12 Rowing Champion.

Kansas Athletics will also be posting live results to the twitter page KUGameday.
