Kauffman Stadium

Kansas Head Coach Ritch Price

On beating their rival Missouri:

“It is a great rivalry. It is a great rivalry in every sport and to be able to come into Kansas City and play at Kauffman Stadium makes it a really special night.”

On what effect of playing in a major league stadium had on the players:

“The enthusiasm in our dugout when we walked into this place was great. Guys got there cell phones out and were clicking pictures. We were here three hours before game time, so we had all kinds of time for them to get control of their emotions before we went out to play.”

On how starting pitcher Schaeffer Hall was acting before the game:

“He was grinning ear to ear, then finally at about five or six o’clock he started to get his game face on and realized it was going to be a special night for him.”

On scoring early:

“I thought it was good that we scored early. When Ryne (Price) hit that home run that put us on the board early, it gave us a chance to play ahead. I think that anytime you have a chance to play ahead and your guy is putting zeros up, it is great to have that offense in the eighth, but getting that run early was crucial.”

Kansas Starting Pitcher Shaeffer Hall:

On playing at Kauffman Stadium…

“My nerves were running, and I got that adrenaline rush. It’s just awesome. I’ve been a Royals fan my whole life and this is my first time playing at Kauffman Stadium. This is a great atmosphere.”

On his pitching performance…

“I was just mixing up my pitches. I really didn’t have a certain pitch working for me, but I was able to move my fast ball in and out and back it up with my slider. I just tried to keep the batters off balance all game.”

On the Kansas team performance…

“They (the defense) did a great job tonight. I couldn’t ask for more from my outfield. They all did a good job behind me. It feels really good to be able to come out with a win tonight.”

Kansas Senior Ryne Price:

On his home run…

“I knew it was gone when I hit it. Andy Marks gave me some advice before I went up there. He just gave me a little scouting report on the pitcher and told me to stay back and let it happen.”

On Hall’s performance…

“I think that was probably his (Hall’s) best outing of the year. Anytime you go 0-for-0 with (Ian) Berger and to walk in here and not be nervous. He was huge. He found the strike zone and let us play for him.”
