Brown and Fattig Named to CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Teams

June 5, 2008

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Senior Ashley Brown and junior Eric Fattig were each named CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honorees on Thursday. The distinction is given to those who excel in the classroom and in their respective athletic events.

Brown, an exercise science major from Overton, Neb., is one of ten Jayhawks heading to the NCAA Outdoor Championships after automatically qualifying in the 400-meter hurdles. She scored in the event at both the Big 12 Championships and the Midwest Regional Championships. Brown, looking to repeat as an All-American in the 400-meter hurdles, was named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team in May.

Fattig, a native of Kearney, Neb., has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average throughout his career. The engineering major was just two meters away from regionally qualifying and set a personal-best in the indoor long jump this year. He was also named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team for the second straight year.

CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District nominees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and have competed in a standard proportion of their team’s meets.

The qualifying Jayhawks, including Brown, will travel to Des Moines, Iowa, for the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships June 11-14. Be sure to log on to www.kuathletics.com to check on their progress throughout the week.
