Walt Koelbel Named to Academic All-Big 12 First Team

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>LAWRENCE, Kan. — The Kansas men’s and women’s golf team were both represented on the 2008 Academic All-Big 12 teams. The women’s team placed four members on the first and second team, while the men’s team had one representative on the first team.

Sophomore Meghan Gockel was one of the five nominees to achieve a perfect 4.0 during the fall semester. Gockel is an accounting major hailing from Dallas, Texas.

Seniors Annie Giangrosso and Jaci Hiatt joined Gockel on the first-team with GPA’s over the required 3.20. JoJo Hallenbeck, a senior majoring in microbiology, was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team.

Senior Walt Koelbel was named the to the Men’s Academic All-Big 12 First Team. The Cherry Hills Village, Colo. native is majoring in business management.

Both the men’s and women’s golf teams will be competing in the Big 12 Championships April 25-27. The men’s event will be held in Trinity, Texas, while the women’s event will be conducted in Stillwater, Okla.
