KU Student-Athletes Set Academic Record for Fall Semester

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>LAWRENCE, Kan. – University of Kansas student-athletes earned a combined 2.93 grade-point average during the 2007 fall semester, setting an Athletics Department-record for a fall semester.

Ten of KU’s 18 varsity teams compiled GPA’s of 3.0 or higher, led by women’s golf, whose 3.37 GPA edged volleyball (3.33) for the highest average in the department. Women’s basketball’s 3.11 set an all-time record for that sport at KU.
A department-record 48 student-athletes achieved perfect 4.0 GPA’s, heading a group of 229 student-athletes named to the Athletics Director’s Honor Roll (GPA’s of 3.0 or higher).
In addition, 35 members of KU’s Spirit Squad also earned spots on the A.D.’s Honor Roll, including two with a GPA of 4.0.
“The student-athletes who represent our program and the University of Kansas are an outstanding group of young people,” said KU Athletics Director Lew Perkins. “They give every ounce of energy to compete in their sports and then they go home, completely tired, and study. We have every reason to be extremely proud of all their efforts — especially their work in the classroom this past fall. Congratulations to all the student-athletes, our terrific KU faculty and to our outstanding athletics academic support staff!”
