KU Tops Tech For Seventh Straight Win

LUBBOCK, Texas –

Serena Settlemier struck out a career-high 14 batters and hit a two-run homer to lead the University of Kansas softball team to a 3-0 win over Texas Tech Saturday at Rocky Johnson Field. The victory marked the Jayhawks’ seventh straight and improved their record to 27-19 overall and 6-7 in Big 12 Conference play.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Settlemier (12-7) topped her previous career mark of 10 strikeouts, allowed just three hits and walked two in the compete-game shut out.

Heather Stanley and Elle Pottorf led the Jayhawks with two hits apiece. The KU offense posted nine hits but left five on base in the win.

KU scored first in the top of the third. Nicole Washburn, who reached on a fielder’s choice, advanced to second on a base hit by Ashley Frazer and to third on a Tech throwing error. Stanley drove in Washburn with a single to left to give the Jayhawks a 1-0 lead.

Settlemier put KU up 3-0 with a two-run blast in the fourth. Destiny Frankenstein led off the inning with a double to right before Settlemier’s seventh homer of the season.

Tech’s Erin Crawford (14-11) allowed six hits, struck out two and walked none in the first 4.0 innings. Sarah Losleben (2.0 innings) and Keely Tucker (1.0) finished the game for Tech.

The Jayhawks and Red Raiders (23-23, 3-14 Big 12) will wrap up the series Sunday at noon.
