No. 8 Oklahoma Hits Way to 17-2 Victory Over No. 30 Kansas

No. 8 Oklahoma used three home runs and 25 hits to defeat No. 30 Kansas, 17-2, Sunday afternoon in the conclusion of Saturday’s suspended game. KU and OU will play the series finale around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Oklahoma was leading 1-0 after one inning when the game resumed at 1 p.m. The Sooners quickly extended their lead to 3-0 with two runs in the second inning.

Sophomore Erik Morrison hit his team-leading 11th home run of the season to score KU’s first run of the game in the bottom of the second. After Preston Land singled, Andrew Spitzfaden hit the ball high off the centerfield wall for an RBI triple. KU’s two-second inning runs was all OU allowed in the game.

Oklahoma added two runs in the third inning with back-to-back home runs to lead off the frame. After scoring one run in the fourth, OU tallied five fifth inning runs. The Sooners then scored six two-out runs in the ninth to run away with a 17-2 victory and the nation’s longest winning streak of 13th-straight.

Jared Schweitzer had two of KU’s nine hits in the game for his team-high 23rd multi-hit game of the season.
