<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>LAWRENCE, Kan. — Redshirt freshman women’s golfer Alyssa Rainbolt represents the University of Kansas on the Second Annual Big 12 Good Works Team. In recognition of the community service efforts by Big 12 student-athletes, the Conference announces the 2008 Spring Sports Good Works Team. Each member institution selected a student-athlete for recognition based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in a Big 12-sponsored sport.

Rainbolt has been an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at Kansas since 2007. The Executive Board member has been a volunteer in the Jayhawk READ program, making frequent visits to local elementary schools to read to young students.

As a frequent volunteer for the Jayhawk Fun and Fitness program, Rainbolt has taken the opportunity to motivate young elementary students to exercise and eat well during regular visits to elementary classrooms throughout the Lawrence community.

The broadcast journalism major also led a team effort to collect donations and shop for adopted kids through the “Adopt-a-Haskell Rascal” program. In conjunction with HaskellIndianNationsUniversity, gifts are provided to the children of student parents who are financially unable to provide presents due to the financial constraints of being a full-time student or working part-time and going to school.

Rainbolt, a Wichita, Kan., native, redshirted for the women’s golf team in 2006-07. The Jayhawks finished 10th at the Big 12 Championships last weekend.

This is the second year the Big 12 announced a 12-person Good Works Team for the fall (cross country, football, soccer, volleyball), winter (basketball, gymnastics, swimming & diving, wrestling) and spring (baseball, golf, softball, tennis, track & field).
