Kansas Swimming and Diving Concludes Season with Awards Banquet

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Seniors Iuliia Kuzhil, Joy Bunting, Alyssa Potter and Brittany Potter were all honored at the Kansas swimming and diving team’s annual award and senior recognition banquet Sunday afternoon. Head coach Clark Campbell honored five student-athletes with individual awards based on their performances during the 2010-11 season.

Kuzhil, a senior from Cherkasy, Ukraine, claimed the Tammy Thomas MVP Award after being the sole Jayhawk to represent the team at the NCAA Championships. This is the second consecutive year that Kuzhil has taken home this award. The decorated swimmer holds the school record in both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events.

Bunting, a senior from Greeley, Colo., won the Karen Dionne Award, presented to the most inspirational member of the team. The senior captain has been awarded this honor for four straight years.

Twin sisters Alyssa and Brittany Potter walked away with the Academic Award. Both have held perfect 4.0 GPAs throughout their KU careers and were recently inducted into the Pharmacy school’s Honor Society.

Freshman Alison Lusk grabbed the Newcomer of the Year Award after breaking the school record in the 200-yard breaststroke at the Big 12 Championships this season.
