Powers Selected To All-Big 12 Golf Team

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>LAWRENCE, Kan. – Three days after earning her way into the NCAA Regional as an individual, Kansas golfer Emily Powers was selected to the 2008 All-Big 12 Women’s Golf Team it was announced on Friday.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Powers, a sophomore from Quincy, Ill., was one of 10 players selected to the league team, which is picked by the conference coaches. She joined four players from OklahomaState, three from Texas A&M and single players from Missouri and Texas.

Oklahoma State, which won the Big 12 title last week, swept the individual honors with Laura Matthews named the Coach of the Year, Permilla Lindberg, the player of the year and Jaclyn Sweeney, the newcomer of the year.

Powers, who will compete as an individual in the NCAA West Regional in Lincoln, Calif. Outside of Sacramento on May 8-10, has a 75.53 scoring average in her second year at KU. After recording eight top-15 finishes in her first 10 events of the year, she tied for 29th at the league championships, while leading KU’s effort.

Powers’ selection marked the third straight year a Jayhawk has made the All-Big 12 team as Amanda Costner was an honoree in both 2006 and 2007.
