Big 12 Championship Live Results

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas rowing team begins its postseason competition on Saturday as the Jayhawks welcome the other four members of the Big 12 to Wyandotte County Lake for the fifth edition of the Big 12 Rowing Championships on Saturday. This is the third time that KU has hosted the Big 12 Rowing Championship. The competition begins at 9:40 a.m.

Kansas will be joined by Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas State and Big 12 newcomer, West Virginia at the regatta. The teams will compete in six different races with points awarded based on the finish of each race.

“All six boats are showing some good speed so we are going into this the best we can be right now,” said KU head coach Rob Catloth. “I am excited for the whole team. There are lots of line-up changes by teams so it’s hard to know where we are at. Based on performances this season, Oklahoma is definitely the favorite for the team title, but it’s really wide open.”

Catloth is looking for a team effort to make the competition successful for the Jayhawks.

“We are looking for everybody to be at their best and at their peak form,” said Catloth. “We are looking for good results in the earlier races in the day as well as the last two races of the day. There are team points in every event and we are looking to maximize our points in every event.”

Texas has won each of the previous four championships, while Oklahoma enters the competition ranked No. 20 in the latest CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll. Kansas won a race at the Big 12 Championship for the first time in 2012 when the Jayhawks took home the title in First Varsity Four. Kansas ended up finishing tied for third with Kansas State last year.

The Jayhawks conclude their season on May 18 at the Conference USA Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The winner of the Conference USA title receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships.
