Kansas Head Coach Ritch Price

On getting better pitching today:

“I was really pleased with T.J. (Walz). The park played normal today. When you go out and put the first three zeroes up, its like we were playing our first normal game of the weekend. (Paul) Smyth had pitched three times already this week, so we were trying to get to the seventh or eighth inning without having to use him. He (Walz) got us into the seventh, and we were able to get out of that one jam and found a way to close it out.”

On Robby Price’s diving catch:

“It was a great play. It took the tying run right off the board. If they were still hitting, who knows what would have happened with that next guy up in the lineup. He made a great play and I was really pleased with (Sam) Freeman. He pitched to contact to their best hitter in the lineup and luckily enough, he was able to hit the ball to somebody who could make a play and get out of the inning.”

On playing better in May:

“It’s true. Part of it is the weather. I’m actually trying to raise a million dollars to put down field turf, so I can practice normally in January and February. The reality is that we are behind until the middle of April, when we are able to catch up in every phase of the game. If I get the field turf in, hopefully we’ll be able to prepare our guys better earlier in the season.”
