LAWRENCE, Kan. –

For the second-straight week Kansas freshman Mason Finley was named the Co-Male Big 12 Athlete of the Week, it was announced Tuesday by the league office.

Finley, a native of Salida, Colo., recorded the best mark of his collegiate career in the discus last weekend at the Arkansas Twilight Meet in Fayetteville, Ark., where he recorded a first place distance of 60.12m (197-3 ft.). With that mark, he currently sits in second on the NCAA descending order list, while also ranking second in the Big 12 Conference. Finley also improved his standings on the Jayhawks’ all-time best performers list, as he ranks fourth all-time with his new mark.

Finley also took home first place in the shot put in Fayetteville, with a Big 12 leading throw of 19.26m (63-02.25 ft.). His new personal best mark in the event ranks third in the NCAA and fifth on the KU all-time chart.

Finley will return to action to help lead the 19th-ranked Jayhawks at the 2010 Big 12 Championships May 14-16 in Columbia, Mo.
