LAWRENCE, Kan. –

University of Kansas head softball coach Tracy Bunge announced Thursday the signing of Erika Simington (Scottsdale, Ariz.) to a National Letter of Intent. Simington, considered one of the top hitters and catchers in the state of Arizona, is a four-year varsity starter out of Chapparral High School.

Simington is currently hitting .466 with six home runs in her senior season and has received first-team all-region and all-state honors. She holds a 3.6 grade point average at Chapparral and plans to major in business and marketing at KU.

The future Jayhawk joins a long line of Kansas recruits from Arizona. Simington currently plays club ball for the Lil’ Saints Gold Team, which produced current Jayhawks Kassie Humphreys (Glendale, Ariz.) and Nettie Fierros (Avondale, Ariz.). KU assistant coach and All-American Christi Musser and her sister, Shelly Musser, were both standout athletes at Chapparral. Simington will be the fifth Arizona native on the Jayhawk squad next season.

The daughter of Robert and Marie Simington, she has one older brother, Mark. Simington joins Val Chapple (Overland Park, Kan.) and Stevie Crisosto (Palo Cedro, Calif.) in the 2005 class of signees.
