Kevin Ward Named To The All-Big 12 Team

May 5, 2005

DALLAS, Texas –

University of Kansas senior men’s golfer, Kevin Ward, was named to the 2005 All-Big 12 Team on Wednesday, the Big 12 Conference announced. This marks the first time Ward has been named to the team.

The Leawood, Kan. native leads the squad with a 72.00 stroke average this spring after competing in each of the team’s seven events. Ward was named to Golfweek’s player of the week on April 1 after a career-best 64 in the second round of the Colorado-Stevinson Ranch Invitational helped him cruise to an eight-under 208 and a six-shot win over Kansas State’s Ben Kern. Ward’s performance also led the Jayhawks to their second-straight win in the event, and sixth in the last seven years.

“He certainly deserves to be on that team,” head coach Ross Randall said. “He has had a good year and I am glad that the other Big 12 coaches recognized that.”

Most recently, Ward led KU by finishing in a tie for 15th at the Big 12 Men’s Championships in Trinity, Texas. He has been the top finisher in five of the team’s seven events this spring and eight of the squad’s 12 events overall.

The All-Big 12 honors are selected by the league’s head coaches.

Ward and the Jayhawks will participate in the 2005 NCAA Central Regionals in South Bend, Ind., where they are seeded fourth. The tournament begins on May 19 and runs through the 21st.
