Rowing Holds Team Banquet

LAWRENCE, Kan. –
The University of Kansas Rowing team held its end of the season banquet last night, May 4. 26 plaques were passed out for the 10 awards. Headlining the banquet was the Oarswoman of the Year and the Nikia Rosenberger Coxswain award. A pair of seniors won the awards, Lindsey Miles and Samira Naji.
The Senior Oarswoman Award was awarded to nine seniors: Ahsley Broockerd, Jelayna Da Silva, Whitney Fasbender, Tiffany Jeffers, LlynnAnn Laugesen, Lindsey Miles, Samira Naji, Tricia Sawtelle Annie Sims. Winning the Senior Academic Achievement Award was Jelayna Da Silva, Whitney Fasbender, Tiffany Jeffers, Lindsey Miles and Annie Sims.
The Captain Award was given to one junior, Kara Boston, and three seniors, Lindsey Miles, Samira Naji and Annie Sims. The “Class of 2000” Team Academic Award was the fourth award to have multiple winners. It was awarded to Lindsey Miles and Annie Sims.
Sophomore Valerie Jackson was recognized as the team’s Most Improved Newcomer. Freshman Lindsey Lawrence won the Outstanding Newcomer award.
The Senior Award, given to the rower that “embodies the essence of a Jayhawk,” was given to Alia Bober. The Most Improved Oarswoman award was given to sophomore Megan Heacock.
Despite holding the team’s end of the season banquet last night, the team’s season is not over. Next weekend, KU will be in Oak Ridge, Tenn. for the South-Central Regionals.
