Despite winning game one of its doubleheader, the Kansas softball team suffered a 6-0 loss in its nightcap at Drake Wednesday evening in KU’s final non-conference game of the season.

With just two games of the regular season remaining, Kansas stands at 20-33 overall. Drake improved to 31-19 with its win in game two.

The Jayhawks struggled to get on base collecting two hits and three walks. Twins Maggie and Rosie Hull each recorded one of Kansas’ hits.

KU gave up three hits through the first four innings but had trouble on defense in the fifth inning giving up four runs on two hits and two errors. Only one of the four runs were earned. Kansas committed a season-high five errors during the contest.

Drake continued its offensive momentum into the bottom of the sixth inning adding two more earned runs. The Bulldogs finished with six hits off KU pitchers Allie Clark and Sarah Vertelka.

The Jayhawks close out its regular season this weekend, May 8-9, when they host Iowa State for a pair of conference games. It will also mark the final home games for Kansas seniors Amanda Jobe, Alicia Irwin, Sara Ramirez, Ally Stanton and Sarah Vertelka.
