The University of Kansas (33-20, 10-13 Big 12) dropped its second straight game to No. 7 Texas (35-15, 18-4 Big 12), 11-4, Saturday afternoon in Austin, Texas. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Texas got on the scoreboard in the second inning. KU’s starting pitcher Nick Czyz walked the lead off batter to start the inning. After a sacrifice bunt moved the runner to second base, Bradley Suttle ripped a one-out double to give the Longhorns a 1-0 lead.

The Longhorns added another run in the third inning off a Drew Stubbs RBI double. Czyz worked out of a two-out bases loaded jam to limit the damage.

UT’s Chance Wheeless ripped a two-out two-run double in the fourth inning to put Texas up 4-0. Czyz was replaced by junior Sean Land who struck out Stubbs to end the inning. The lefty then came out and struck out the side in the fifth inning.

Land finished with four strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work while allowing one run on three hits.

Kansas scored its first run of the game in the eighth inning. A lead off double by Ritchie Price and a single by Gus Milner put two men on for Jared Schweitzer who roped an RBI single over the shortstops head.

Texas added six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take an 11-1 lead. Two runs came off freshman Andy Marks who started the inning on the hill. Texas also scored two runs off freshman Paul Smyth while UT’s final two runs were unearned.

Texas left the bases loaded in the third and sixth innings and stranded 10 runners in the game while KU left nine on base.

Freshman Riley Boening (4-1) started for the Longhorns and picked up the win. The lefty struck out seven Jayhawks and allowed three hits in six innings of work to improve his record to 4-1 on the season.

Nick Czyz (3-2) took the loss in his first career Big 12 start. The lefty struck out one batter and gave up four earned runs on four hits in 3.2 innings.

Sophomore Brock Simpson had three hits on the day. Ritchie Price and Milner chipped in two each.

KU and UT will play its series finale Sunday at 1 p.m. Senior RHP Kodiak Quick (8-3, 3.22 ERA) will face RHP Adrian Alaniz (5-2, 4.36 ERA). The Longhorns will attempt to sweep the series from the Jayhawks, a feat that hasn’t happened to KU this season.
