Volleyball Announces Two New Additions to 2009 Team

May 6, 2009

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas volleyball coach Ray Bechard announced the addition of Catherine Carmichael and Morgan Boub to the 2009 Jayhawk volleyball team Wednesday.

“We are thrilled to welcome Morgan and Catherine to our volleyball family,” said Bechard. “Both bring something special to our team.”

Carmichael will come to Kansas from Manhattan High School in Manhattan, Kan., where she was a member of the Indians’ volleyball and basketball teams. A 6-foot-2 offensive threat, Carmichael was an All-Centennial League Honorable Mention volleyball player and was named her school’s junior class female athlete of the year in 2007-08. She was also an all-state selection in basketball and played club volleyball for the Topeka Elite.

“Catherine is a dynamic, gifted athlete who is new to the sport,” Bechard said of Carmichael. “Her work-ethic and athleticism will enable her to develop into a player who will significantly impact our program.”

Also an in-state product, Boub (pronounced bobe) is from Blue Valley West High School in Overland Park, Kan. She helped guide the Jaguars to three runner-up finishes at state from 2006-08. A co-captain in 2008, Boub was a two-time all-state selection, three-time all-conference pick and was named the league’s defensive player of the year in 2008. She will leave Blue Valley West as the school’s all-time digs leader and holds the school record for service reception average. Boub was also a USA Junior Olympic Volleyball All-Tournament Team selection in 2006.

“Morgan is a very hard working, intense competitor who will impact our back row in numerous ways,” said Bechard. “Her platform and serving skills will add immediate depth to that position.”
