Kansas Rowing Announces 2010 Recruiting Class

LAWRENCE, Kan.—Kansas rowing head coach Rob Catloth announced the addition of 18 athletes to the 2010-11 recruiting class. The class includes 15 athletes from the state of Kansas, two from Missouri and one from Virginia.

“We feel like we have an outstanding group of incoming student-athletes for fall 2010,” said Catloth. “This group of recruits has strong athletic backgrounds that will benefit the rowing program at Kansas and contribute to the continued success of our program.”

“From this class we’re looking to build for the future and reach our goal of becoming a top 20 program,” Catloth added. “We are excited to start working with them and for them to become Jayhawks.”

Maddie Alexander (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest High School): Three-year letterwinner in volleyball and a two-year letterwinner in swimming… Scholar athlete… Swimming team was the 2008 EKL champions and 6A state champions.

Callie Davis (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South High School): Lettered in softball, volleyball, track and tennis.

Caitlyn Decker (Pittsburg, Kan./St. Mary’s Colgan High School): Lettered in volleyball for three years and track, softball and cheer for two years… Trampoline state champion in 2009… Eight-year running state champion on double mini (2002-2009)… Holds the school high jump record… Named a cheerleading All-American in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Meg Demuri (Buffalo, Mo./Buffalo High School): Lettered in volleyball for four years and basketball for three years… Volleyball all-conference first team in 2009… Valedictorian of her class… National Honor Society member.

Marie Fesen (Hutchinson, Kan./Trinity High School): Competed in basketball for the Crusaders.

Kelsie Fiss (Kansas City, Mo./St. Teresa’s Academy): Lettered in volleyball and basketball for two years and track for one … Academic All-State in volleyball in 2008 and 2009… Member of National Honor Society.

Brittny Harms (Ottawa, Kan./Ottawa High School): Member of the Cyclones’ volleyball team for three seasons.

Katie Hayes (Pittsburg, Kan./St. Mary’s Colgan High School): Lettered in basketball and softball for four years and volleyball for three years… Named a 2008 first team all-conference pitcher in softball… An all-A honor roll member for three years.

Courtney Holmes (Wichita, Kan./Maize High School): Lettered in softball and track for one year… Academic letter in track in 2009.

Abby Horton (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest High School): Three-year letterwinner in softball… A scholar-athlete for four years… Named to the Principal’s Honor Roll for four years… Member of National Honor Society and National Arts Honor Society.

Amanda Lewis (Silver Lake, Kan./Silver Lake High School): Four-year letterwinner in basketball, three-year letterwinner in track, and a two-year letterwinner in volleyball… Holds the Silver Lake High School javelin record.

Abbey Lozenski (Lansing, Kan./Lansing High School): Four-year letterwinner in basketball and soccer, three-year letterwinner in cross country and two-year letterwinner in cheer… Named an All-American cheerleader… A Kansas Honor Scholar, Governor’s Scholar and Board of Regents Scholar… Watkins-Berger Scholarship recipient.

Cara Murray (Lenexa, Kan./Shawnee Mission West High School): Lettered in cross country and track for four years and bowling for one year.

Rachel Newby (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock Secondary School): Four-year letterwinner in crew… Captain of 2009-10 crew team… Earned an academic letter all four years… Member of National Honor Society.

Hannah Singhal (Lenexa, Kan./Shawnee Mission Northwest High School): Four-year letterwinner in swimming… Captain of the swimming team as a senior… Four-year Academic Letter Pin recipient… Kansas Governor’s Scholar… Four-year 4.0+ honor roll.

Bailey Stallbaumer (Andover, Kan./Andover Central High School): Lettered in volleyball, basketball and track at Andover Central… 2008 basketball 4A state champs.

Jasmyn Turner (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence High School): Lettered in volleyball, basketball and softball for three years… Recorded a triple-double as a senior with 18 points, 12 steals and 10 rebounds… Second team all-league in volleyball and basketball as a senior.

Sarah Waterson (Wichita, Kan./Bishop Carroll High School): Three-year letterwinner in volleyball and basketball, one-year letterwinner in track… Volleyball 5A state honorable mention… Golden Eagle Academic Award recipient… Named to Volleyball All-City Academic team.
