Swimming & Diving Hosts Third Annual Special Olympics Clinic

May 6, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The University of Kansas Women’s Swimming and Diving team hosted a Special Olympics swimming and diving clinic on April 23 at Robinson Natatorium. The event was made possible by Special Olympics strong partnership with the Big 12 Conference.

This marks the third time the team has held such a clinic. Special Olympians from across DouglasCounty showed up ready to interact with the KU student-athletes and get some helpful swimming and diving tips.

The Special Olympians rotated through six different stations working on several swimming strokes. They were eager to try out the diving boards as well. Members of the KU swimming and diving team cheered the Special Olympians on as they dove off the one meter boards and in some instances, the three meter diving boards.

Overall, it was a great experience for the Special Olympians and the swimming and diving team. The clinic gave the Jayhawks the opportunity to showcase their skills and knowledge of their sport while also giving back to the community.
