Dixon Blazes In 400 Meters To Lead Jayhawks At Arkansas Twilight

May 6, 2011

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. –

Kansas freshman Diamond Dixon crossed the finish line in a personal best time of 52.96 on her way to a second place finish and a new KU record in the 400 meters to lead all Jayhawks at the Arkansas Twilight meet here Friday.

Dixon, who also competed as a member of the KU 4×100 and 4×400-meter relay teams, trimmed nearly seven tenths of a second off of her previous collegiate best time of 53.62 which she ran at the Kansas Relays in late April. Dixon’s time moves her up to third in the Big 12 in the 400 meters and 13th in the NCAA.

The Jayhawks got first place finished out of freshman Charlene Brown in the women’s 5,000 meters (18:59.70) and the men’s 4×400-meter relay team. Kyle Clemons, Dalen Fink, Dominique Manley and Keron Toussaint passed the baton around in a season’s best time of 3:09.66. The time by the Jayhawk relay ranks as the fifth best in the Big 12 in 2011.

Toussaint had an outstanding day in the 400 meters as he turned in a personal best time of 46.80 on his way to a third place finish. Toussaint’s time on Friday ranks as the 12th fastest time in the 400 meters in the Big 12 this season.

Overall, KU had 13 different athletes record personal best times in their respective races and Dixon set a new KU record in the 400 meters. The following athletes set new personal bests: Dixon (400m, 52.96), Shayla Wilson (800m, 2:11.18), Anna Barber (800m, 2:17.48), Kathryn Lupton (100 hurdles, 14.11 and 400 hurdles, 1:00.95), Timmie Morris (400 hurdles, 1:04.45), Alex Hermes (100m, 11.05 and 200m, 22.13), Bruce Tyner (100m, 11.26), Toussaint (400m, 46.80), Nick Seckfort (800m, 1:53.08), Sean Proehl (800m, 1:55.07) and Ebo Browne (800m, 1:57.01).
