May 6, 2011

NORMAN, Okla. –

Kansas senior outfielder Casey Lytle has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 7 First Team selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This marks the first time in his career that Lytle has been honored on the Academic All-District team.

Lytle, a senior who is a double-major in finance and business, has a cumulative grade point average of 3.66. He is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection and has been named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll seven times in his collegiate career. He is also a three-time Jayhawk Scholar.

The senior right fielder leads the Jayhawks with a .311 batting average, including a .366 average in Big 12 games prior to Friday night’s game at Oklahoma. Lytle also has eight doubles, one homer and 10 stolen bases on the season. He has scored 21 runs, which is tied for third-most on the team.

Lytle is now eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be voted on later in the month.

To qualify for the Academic All-District team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in school and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.4. Once nominated, the team is selected by members of CoSIDA.
