Jayhawks Round Out Regular Season at Nebraska

The University of Kansas track and field teams competed at the Nebraska Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., for one final tune-up before next weekend’s Big 12 Outdoor Championships. The Jayhawks recorded three first places at Ed Weir Stadium on Saturday.

Freshman hurdler Ashley Brown had a huge day in Lincoln recording a first place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a season best time of 1:02.55. Brown went on to finish third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.45.

KU finished with the top three spots in the women’s 1500. Senior Megan Manthe finished first with a time of 4:35.7, while freshman Lisa Morrisey placed second (4:38.2) and junior Dena Seibel finished third (4:38.2).

Senior Kim Clark recorded her best time of the season with a second place, 2:09.75 finish in the 800. Junior Angela Pichardo finished fifth in the event in 2:13.50.

Other notable finishes for the Jayhawk women included sophomore Octavia Garrett’s season-best fourth place, 54.91 finish in the 400 and sophomore Abby Emsick’s fourth place finish in the discus (166-05).

The Jayhawks recorded one first place finish on the men’s side.

Freshman Colby Wissel placed first in the 1500 in 3:54.74, as KU took the top three spots in the event. Junior Cameron Schwehr finished as the runner-up in 3:55.02, as fellow junior Joshy Madathil placed third with a time of 3:59.82.

Freshman Micah Brown had a good day in the triple jump with a season-best second place, 48-00.00 effort, while junior Brandon Hodges placed fourth in the 800 with a season-best time of 1:51.51.

KU will begin postseason action next weekend at the 2005 Big 12 Outdoor Championships in Manhattan, Kan. Events at K-State will be held May 13-15.
