Postgame Quotes

Kansas 10, Missouri 3

Kansas Head Coach Ritch Price

On starting pitcher T.J. Walz:

“I really think he set the tone early. I thought he was outstanding. The two jams he got out of were crucial, because if they got base hits, they had a chance to get right back in this thing.”

On the emotion shown by Walz:

“I think he’s gotten more competitive, as he’s gotten into his junior year and he knows what he’s doing. He has raised his level of competitiveness because that is not how he is by nature. He’s a really quiet, reserved individual. Tonight he had to keep everything down because of the wind. He used his change-up because if he elevated the ball in the wind, that thing was going to be a home run.”

On the Kansas-Missouri Rivalry:

“We feel that the Missouri-Kansas rivalry is one of the best in the whole country. It has been like that ever since I’ve been here. It’s one of the best rivalries in all of college sports.”

On the strong winds during the game:

“It was amazing in batting practice. Guys were hitting over the light towers and trees because that wind was so hard. For us to hold them to three runs is a tremendous performance from our pitchers, (T.J.) Walz and (Travis) Blankenship.”
