Sophomore Marissa Ingle had two RBIs and scored a run as the Kansas softball team defeated Iowa State 3-0 in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader.

The teams will play the second game of the twinbill at approximately 2:15 p.m. KU’s five seniors- Alicia Irwin, Amanda Jobe, Sara Ramirez, Ally Stanton and Sarah Vertelka- will be honored after the game.

Kansas improved to 21-33 with the win, including 2-15 in the Big 12. Iowa State dropped to 25-28 (3-14 Big 12).

Freshman pitcher Alex Jones threw the complete game shutout, her second of the year, and improved to 7-9 from the circle, while picking up her first career Big 12 victory.

Ingle and sophomore Allie Clark each went 2-for-3 during the game. Sophomore Kelsey Alsdorf and freshman Rosie Hull each added a hit for the Jayhawks as KU out-hit ISU 6-3.

Ingle put Kansas’ first run on the board in the bottom of the second inning. Her sacrifice fly to center field scored junior Brittany Hile, who made it to third base during her at bat after a dropped fly ball to right field.

In the fifth inning Alsdorf came through with a pinch-hit single up the middle that plated Ingle. Alsdorf is 3-for-7 in pinch hit situations this season.

Kansas scored one last run in the sixth frame when Ingle doubled to deep center field to bring home Hull from second base.

Iowa State stranded a runner on base in every inning but the first and last, including bases loaded in the top of the third inning, but Jones struck out the Cyclones’ next batter to end the threat.
