South-Central Regionals Up Next for Rowing

May 9, 2007

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas will return to the water after a weekend off for the South-Central Regional Regatta in Oak-Ridge, Tenn on May 12-13. The two-day regatta is the qualifier for the NCAA Championships held two weeks later at the same location. There are five events, beginning with the First Novice Eight heats on Saturday morning at 9:40 a.m. The finals will be held on Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m.

Kansas will face many of the nation’s top teams at the regatta including Notre Dame, Texas and Kansas State. KU will have one boat in each event, headlined by the Big 12 Invitational Varsity Four boat consisting of Lexie Peterson, Brooke Castrop, Hailee Jones, Abbi Huderle and Kristin Deckert.

Last year, Kansas finished second in the First Novice Eight Final “B” with a time of 7:14.77. Another notable achievement from last year’s regional was the First Varsity Eight’s defeat of Texas, a team that KU had not defeated in two previous attempts.
