Chapple Named Academic All-District First Team

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas softball senior Val Chapple has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team for the second consecutive year.

Chapple, who has been the Jayhawks’ starting third baseman for the past four years, has a 4.0 cumulative GPA and graduated last December with a secondary physics education degree. She has since started working towards her master’s in education. She was also named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team this season for the third time.

The Overland Park, Kan., native was one of four Big 12 Conference players on the first team and finished the season with a .307 batting average, 46 hits and batted in 25 RBI. She was one of three Jayhawks to start all 52 games in 2009.

Kansas softball wrapped up its season on May 8 with a loss to Iowa State during the first round of the Big 12 Softball Championship.
