Men's Golf Reunion a Success

May 9, 2011

Over the weekend, a number of Kansas men’s golf alumni made it back to Lawrence for a reunion. Events included a gathering at a Lawrence favorite, The Wheel, and a shotgun tournament that was played on Saturday May 7th at Alvamar Country Club in Lawrence.

There were 29 players who attended the reunion, some graduating as early as 1951. The team of Chris Thompson and Jim Gates won the tournament. Head coach Kit Grove was proud that so many alums still feel a connection to the school and to the team.

“It’s great to have players come back to KU from all across the country,” Grove said. “It shows how dedicated and committed our Alums are to KU Golf.”

“Most alums haven’t been back yet to see our new facilities, so it was great to show them the Ross Randall and KU Teaching Facility. The guys were very impressed and needless to say a little jealous as they wished they had it back when they played. KU Golf is moving in an excellent direction and it’s great to share it with our alums.”
