LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The 2007 Kansas recruiting class has been recognized by Soccer Buzz Magazine, as the third-best class in the Big 12 and fifth in the Central Region.

This matches KU’s highest regional ranking of a recruiting class since 2003. KU’s incoming freshman class was also tabbed 36th in the country, which is also its highest ranking in the last two years.

“I think it’s nice to have a recruiting class recognized like this,” KU head coach Mark Francis said. “With the size of the class, as well as the quality of it, we anticipate them pushing our returning players to the NCAA Tournament and the chance to win a Big 12 championship.”

The Jayhawks are bringing in nine newcomers to the 2007 squad, including Taylor Blue (Olathe, Kan.), Emily Cressy (Ventura, Calif.), Kaitlyn Cunningham (Geneva, Ill.), Erin Ellefson (Overland Park, Kan.), Lauren Jackson (Long Beach, Calif.), Erin Lewis (Stilwell, Kan.), Geneva Magness (Overland Park, Kan.), Rachel C. Morris (Overland Park, Kan.) and Katie Williams (Houston, Texas).

The nine freshmen join a Kansas squad which returns nine starters from 2006, including all-conference selections Jessica Bush, Missy Geha and Jenny Murtaugh. KU finished fourth in the Big 12 last season at 11-7-1.
