Six Jayhawks Named to Academic All-Big 12 First Team

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Six members of the Kansas softball team were named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, announced by the Conference on Thursday.
The Jayhawks (31-20, 6-17) tied last season’s mark of six players earning first team accolades and the seniors set the example. Redshirt senior Liz Kocon made her third appearance on the Academic All-Big 12 team, and her second as a first team selection. Marissa Ingle earned her second first team distinction in her senior season, while fellow seniors Kelsey Alsdorf and Leah Daibercollected their first-career honors.
After earning NFCA Academic All-Region honors last week, juniors Maggie Hull and Rosie Hullwere also earned first team recognition from the Big 12.
Nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services, the Academic All-Big 12 Softball Team consists of 49 first team members combined with six on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
