Sophomore Preston Land and junior Ryne Price each hit home runs and went 2-for-2 with three RBIs apiece as the University of Kansas downed Chicago State, 12-1 in seven innings Friday evening at Hoglund Ballpark.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

The Jayhawks improve to 24-28 overall, while Chicago State falls to 3-43.

KU jumped on the visiting Cougars off the bat, scoring six runs in each of the first two innings.

Junior Erik Morrison’s bases clearing double and Land’s two-run double highlighted the first for KU. The Jayhawks sent 10 men to the plate in the inning with the first six hitters in the line up all scoring runs.

Price hit his team-leading tenth home run of the season deep to right field in the second inning, while Land followed two batters later with his fourth of the season. It marked the sixth time this season that KU hit multiple home runs in an inning.

Freshman Wally Marciel earned his fifth victory of the season on the mound. The freshman went five innings, allowing three hits and one walk, while striking out six.

Junior Matt Lane pitched the final two innings for KU.

Offensively, Land, Kyle Murphy, Robby Price and Ryne Price all had two hits in the game.

The Jayhawks will meet Chicago State in a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m., at Hoglund Ballpark. The final game of the four-game set with be Sunday at 11 a.m.
