Kansas Rowing to Travel to South-Central Regionals

The Kansas University rowing team will travel to the South-Central Regionals on May 14-15, 2005. The race will take place on the Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Kansas will be one of 29 team competing at the Regional. The regatta is a two-day event with races beginning at 9:00 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

The Jayhawks will enter boats in the Open 4, 1st Varsity 4, 1st Varsity 8, and the 2nd Varsity 8.

Last year, Kansas’ 1st Novice 8 crew took home the gold medal with a time of 7:05.3. KU defeated second place Ohio State by four seconds to win the final. The Jayhawks’ 1st Varsity 8 boat finished sixth in the Petite Final, with a time of 7:05.4, good for seventh in the Central Region. Kansas’ 2nd Varsity 8 notched third place in its C Final with a time of 7:18.2, four seconds behind first place Miami. The Kansas Varsity 4 boat finished fifth in the Varsity 4 C Final with an 8:36.0 time. As a team, the ‘Hawks finished eighth in the Central Region and 12th overall with 189 points.
