Former Jayhawk Pitcher Bochy Assigned to Class A Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. –

The San Francisco Giants’ organization announced Friday that former Kansas pitcher Brett Bochy has completed his extended spring training assignment and has been added to the Augusta GreenJackets’ roster.

Bochy, who was drafted by the Giants’ organization in the 20th round of the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft, went 2-0 with an 0.78 ERA with five saves in 12 appearances for the Jayhawks last season. However, he underwent Tommy John surgery on April 8, 2010 and missed the final two months of his junior season.

“I am thrilled for Brett, because I know how hard he’s worked to get back on the mound after his rehab,” Kansas head coach Ritch Price said. “We’re all going to follow his progress pretty close this summer. He’s somebody I believe has a chance to pitch at the major league level.”

Bochy was twice named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week in 2010 and was a member of the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team. He finished his KU career with a 7-0 record with a 3.52 ERA and 106 strikeouts in 77 innings.

The GreenJackets – a Class A affiliate of the Giants – are currently 12-22 on the season and will play a three-game series at Hickory this weekend. Bochy is the youngest son of San Francisco Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy.
