LEAWOOD, Kan. – Kansas junior Emily Powers shot a 10-over par 81 in the first round of the Duramed FUTURES Tour event in Leawood, Kan. on Friday. With only 72 of the 144 players completing play due to weather, Powers, the only amateur in the field, finished the day tied for 54th place among those who completed their rounds.

Powers got off to a quick start recording a par on the par-five first hole and making a birdie on the par-three second hole. After another par on the third hole, she was one under par.

Powers then recorded a bogey and a double bogey before closing out the front nine with four straight pars to shoot a two-over 38.

The Quincy, Ill. native struggled on the back nine registering just two pars, six bogeys and one double bogey en route to an eight-over 43 on the back side and an 81 total.

In addition, former KU standout Amanda Costner is competing, but is one of the golfers who did not get her round completed. Costner was five over par through 14 holes before play was halted.

Ashley Prange held the lead in the clubhouse with a one-over par 72. Seo-Jae Lee and Benedikte Grotvedt are both three-under par, but Lee completed only 12 holes, while Grotvedt finished seven holes.

Tournament officials have scheduled the players to return to the course to complete the first round at 7 a.m. Saturday. The second round is expected to start around 9:30 a.m.
