LEAWOOD, Kan. — Former Kansas great Amanda Costner shot an opening-round even-par 71 in the first round of the Duramed FUTURES Tour’s Merceds-Benz of Kansas City Golf Championship Friday.

Costner, who played at Kansas from 2004-07, is in a pack of golfers tied for 13th place, six shots off the pace set by Ryann O’Toole of San Clemente, Calif.

The tournament is being played at the Leawood South Country Club and will continue through Sunday.

Costner is in her third year on the FUTURES Tour. In early April she recorded her career best finish with a tie for ninth at the Daytona Beach Invitational. At Kansas Costner was the 2007 Big 12 Individual champion and a two-time All-Big 12 First-Team selection.
