KU's Powers Finishes Second Round At FUTURES Event

LEAWOOD, Kan. – Kansas golfer Emily Powers improved one stroke in the second round of the Duramed FUTURES Tour event in Leawood, Kan. on Saturday. Powers, a junior at KU, is the only amateur in the field of 144 players.
With nine players unable to finish the second round, Powers is tied for 113th place with a 181 total. Powers shot an opening day 81 on Friday, but cut one stroke off her score on her second trip around the Leawood South Country Club on Saturday.
After a rough start beginning the tournament on the back nine, Powers finished the day strong as she recorded pars on five of the final six holes. Powers started the day with a par on the 10th hole, her first hole of the day, but followed with three bogeys and a double-bogey in the next four holes. She finished that nine six-over par.
Despite a birdie on the second hole for the second straight day, she reached eight over par by following her two with a double-bogey. She then played solid down the stretch.
Powers closed her round with a three-over par 39 back nine, which included pars on five of the final six holes on the front nine.
A trio of players are two over par with 144 totals to lead the tournament. Twenty-two professionals finished the day behind Powers.
