Kansas Completes Day One of the South-Central Regionals

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – Kansas rowing fared well on the first day of the South-Central Regionals in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Kansas was led by the Novice Eight team that qualified for the Petite Finals. Three of KU’s other four boats will compete Sunday morning in the `C’ Finals over the MeltonHillLake race course. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

The Jayhawk Novice Eight boat placed fourth in its semifinal heat with a time of 7:24.13. That solid time will give the Jayhawks a chance at a team-high top-10 finish.

Kansas’ other eight person boats experienced varying success. The Second Varsity Eight boat will look to secure a top-15 finish after recording a second place finish in the C/D final. The Second Varsity Eight crossed the wire in 7:17.54.

KU’s First Varsity Eight boat will race in Sunday’s `D’ Final against Eastern Michigan, SMU and North Carolina. The First Varsity Eight boat placed fourth in its C/D semifinal race in a time of 7:13.28.

The KU four person boats will both compete in the `C’ Finals on Sunday and hope to record a top-15 finish. The Open Four Boat finished in 8:14.8. The Varsity Four Boat placed fourth in its heat in a time of 7:53.42

Novice Eight – Petite Final – 10:31 a.m.

Opponents: North Carolina `A’, Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa, KansasState

Open Four – “C” Final – 10:52 a.m.

Opponents: Miami, Iowa, Tennessee `B’, Tennessee `A’, Louisville
