Postgame Quotes

Kansas 17, No. 11 Kansas State 7

May 17, 2009 – Lawrence, Kan.

Head Coach Ritch Price:

On senior Nick Faunce returning to the starting line-up:

“It was great to see him back in the line up. He got in the game on Saturday at Missouri (May 8) when (freshman center fielder Jason) Brunansky ran into the wall. He was really out-of-sync after not playing for four weeks. It was really good to see him swing well today and be on time on the fastball. To be team captain, be starting, and to have a pretty good year is great. Then to have that broken finger set you back, it’s great to see him back on the field for Senior Day.”

On Faunce balancing his baseball career and double-majoring in chemistry and biochemistry:

“He does a great job. He’s obviously a tremendous student and he’s got his priorities right. He’s disciplined on the field and off the field. Could you imagine what his study load must be in addition to time demands for this? He’s done an unbelievable job of being a student-athlete.”

On winning the series with Kansas State:

“I’m just pleased that my team fought back after Friday night and won the series. The next step in this team’s development is to get beat Friday and find a way to win Saturday and Sunday, and we’ve done that now against Nebraska and we did it again here tonight. We’ve come a long way. Our young guys have matured and gained experience and they’re now legitimate Big 12 players in every phase of the game.”
