Jayhawks Land Two on NFCA All-Region Team

May 19, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. – For the first time since 2006, Kansas softball placed two student-athletes on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region Team as seniorsoftbl-pic-1-height-250.jpg Brittany Hile and sophomore Maggie Hull each earned second-team honors. It is the first all-region distinction for both players and KU’s first all-region awards since 2008.

Hile had a standout senior campaign in which the Olathe, Kan., native started all 53 games and launched the school’s third-most single season home runs with 13. Early in the year, she hit a home run in four consecutive games, one contest shy of the NCAA record. Hile also amassed 46 hits and 36 RBIs in 2011 on her way to a .637 slugging percentage, which is the fourth-best mark in a KU season. After four years in the Crimson and Blue, the catcher will leave KU with the program’s fifth-most home runs (23) and eighth-most RBIs (93).

For her efforts, Hile became the second Jayhawk ever drafted when she was taken in the fourth round by the NPF Diamonds as the 15th overall pick in the National Pro Fastpitch Senior Draft on March 18.

Her team-high 49 RBIs and 14 doubles ranks second and fifth, respectively, in the KU single-season record books while her 39 runs scored were ninth. Additionally, Hull’s .611 slugging percentage is fifth right behind Hile. She was also named All-Big 12 Second Team earlier this season.

Hull, who started all 53 contests in the outfield, smashed three grand slams this season tying a national high for 2011. She led the Jayhawks with 15 multi-hit games and 14 contests with two or more RBIs.

The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams.
