Kansas set three school records and had two Big 12 champions at the meet. As a team, the KU men placed ninth while the women’s fourth-place finish was the highest in team history.

Senior Kate Sultanova won her second conference title in the women’s pole vault while Egor Agafonov became the first person in Big 12 history to win three straight championships in the hammer throw.

Juniors Stephanie Horton and Nickesha Anderson each imprinted their names into the Kansas record book at the conference meet as well as the four members of the women’s 400-meter relay team. Horton set the standard in the women’s shot put at 16.05 meters (52 feet, 8 inches), finishing fifth while Anderson became the first Jayhawk to break the 23-second barrier (22.57) in the 200-meter dash, placing third. Anderson also joined seniors Crystal Manning and Ashley Brown and junior Victoria Howard on the record-setting 400-meter relay team (44.61, fifth place).

Texas A&M won the women’s team championship with 157 points, while host Colorado won the men’s championship with 80 of their 138 points coming in the distance events. It was the first conference title for the Buffaloes since 1947.

Next up for the Jayhawks is the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships in Lincoln, Neb. May 30-31. Kansas will enter the meet with 29 regional qualifying marks. The top-five finishers in each event will then automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, June 11-14.
