KU's Barbee Completes Day Two of NCAA Southwest Golf Regional

SANTEE, Calif. –

Kansas golfer Nate Barbee shot a 79 Friday and is tied for 61st place after two rounds of play at the NCAA Southwest Golf Regional. Barbee, a junior from Dakota Dunes, S.D., is representing the University of Kansas men’s golf team in the event as an individual.

The top individual finisher not on a team which advances to the NCAA Tournament will qualify for the national championship.

After sitting atop the leaderboard following the first day of competition, Eddie Olson of UNLV dropped to second place in the individual race after shooting a 73 Friday. He now trails Nick Delio of CSU-Northridge by a single stroke heading into Saturday’s final 18 holes of competition. Oregon pulled out of a first day, four-way tie in the team standings on the second day of golf. The Ducks are now the sole team in first place, with the University of California trailing the leader by two strokes.

Barbee will tee off at 11:10 a.m. Central time Saturday for his third and final round of the tournament, which is taking place at the Carlton Oaks Golf Course just outside of San Diego, Calif. He will be grouped with

Kyle Spencer of Oral Roberts University and Arkansas State University’s Lloyd du Preez.
