Kansas Baseball to Host Senior Day Sunday

May 21, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas baseball will honor its six-member senior class with a ceremony prior to first pitch Sunday against Oklahoma. Senior pitchers Travis Blankenship, Brett Bollman, Thomas Marcin and Cameron Selik as well as infielders Brett Lisher and Robby Price will all be playing in their final home game Sunday against the 14th-ranked Sooners at 1 p.m.

The six-member senior class has helped the Jayhawks reach the Big 12 Baseball Championship twice as well as the 2009 NCAA Tournament. The senior Jayhawks have been a part of 129 victories heading into this weekend. Three of them were named to the Academic All-Big 12 team earlier this week, while two more have been selected to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll in their careers.

The Senior Day celebration will be followed by a ceremonial first pitch by Morgan Yoakum, representing the Salty Iguana Restaurant, which hosts the Ritch Price Show every Monday evening.

Nine-year old Paige Padgett will sing the National Anthem prior to first pitch. Padgett will be making her second appearance at Hoglund Balllpark. The granddaughter of Gary and Sue Padgett has performed the Star Spangled Banner at KU baseball and basketball games as well as several other events.

The Jayhawks (31-21-1, 11-12-1 in the Big 12) will open the final series of the regular season Friday night against No. 14 Oklahoma at 7 p.m., with the second game Saturday at 6 p.m., with Sunday’s finale slated for a 1 p.m. start.
