TUCSON, Ariz. – Kansas golfer Chris Gilbert tied for 55th place at the NCAA Regional at Tucson, Ariz. Saturday. Gilbert, who qualified for the event as an individual, shot a final-day 73.

Gilbert sandwiched a round of 75 in between a pair of 73s in the 54-hole tournament held at the par-71 Omni Tucson National Resort. His three-round total was 221.

Gilbert started the final day on the par-five 10th hole and carded a birdie on that hole for the third straight day. He would bogey 12 and 13 before getting back to even par with a birdie on 15.

A bogey on 16 sent him back to one-over par, but after three straight pars, he birdied the second hole, his 11th of the day, to get back to even. However he would make two more bogeys the rest of the day to finish at 73.

The top five teams advanced to the NCAA Championship in San Diego State, Texas A&M, California, Pepperdine and Arizona. The top individual not on one of those teams also advanced. That player was Matt Hansen of UC Davis, who also claimed medalist honors with a nine-under par 204 total.
