Kansas Tuesday released its non-conference schedule except for three of the teams that will compete in the Jayhawk Invitational. The round-robin event will conclude with the Jayhawks hosting Arizona in Allen Fieldhouse Sunday, Nov. 25. The other three teams will be announced at a later date. The game against Arizona will double as the two teams’ game in the new Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series.

Kansas non-league foes Arizona, Southern California, Georgia Tech, Miami (Ohio) and BostonCollege each played in the 2007 NCAA Tournament, while DePaul advanced to the quarterfinals of the NIT.

“This schedule is comparable to the one we had in 2004-05 when we had the number one RPI in the nation,” Kansas head coach Bill Self said. “It is very good. It has high profile games with Arizona, USC, Georgia Tech, BostonCollege and DePaul and many other games against quality competition. Hosting our own event will be something all of our fans will enjoy.”

“Every non-conference team we play this year had a winning record last season,” Self added. “In fact five of them – Arizona, USC, DePaul, Georgia Tech and BostonCollege – won 20 or more games. We anticipate this giving us a good television schedule as well, even though that has not been released yet.”

Four non-league games will have familiar looks from recent years. Kansas will travel to USC, Georgia Tech and BostonCollege, and DePaul will visit Lawrence. Last season, KU defeated USC and BostonCollege in Allen Fieldhouse and lost at DePaul. Kansas defeated Georgia Tech on New Years Day 2005 in a 70-68 overtime thriller in Allen Fieldhouse and the Jayhawks will make the return trip to Atlanta on Dec. 18.

Former Jayhawk Rex Walters returns to Allen Fieldhouse Nov. 28 when he brings his Florida Atlantic Owls to Lawrence. Walters, who is entering his second season as coach of the Owls, was a two-time All-Big Eight Conference First Team selection in 1992 and 1993 and the conference male athlete of the year in 1993.

Kansas will open competition with two exhibition contests against PittsburgState on Nov. 1 and FortHaysState Nov. 6. KU’s regular season will begin Nov. 9 with a home match-up against Louisiana Monroe. The Jayhawks’ game against OhioUniversity will take place in the SprintCenter in Kansas City, which is scheduled to open this fall.

The Big 12 Conference will release the league schedule some time this summer.
