May 25, 2010

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. –

Kansas senior infielder Robby Price and junior outfielder Brian Heere were both selected to the All-Big 12 first team by the league’s coaches Tuesday. This marks the first time either player has been a member of the all-conference first team.

Heere, a junior outfielder from Lawrence, Kan., hit .403 during the regular season, including .381 in Big 12 contests. He leads the conference in base hits (89) and ranks fifth in on-base percentage (.481) and eighth in total bases (126). He led the Jayhawks with 28 multi-hit games and tied for second on the team with six homers. Heere had a 19-game hitting streak snapped on Sunday against Oklahoma. The streak was tied for the seventh-longest in school history. He also enters the Big 12 Baseball Championship with the highest career batting average in Kansas history, at .377.

Price, a senior second baseman from Lawrence, Kan., batted .342 with team highs in doubles (19), triples (four) and runs scored (65). The Kansas infielder actually hit better in Big 12 games, posting a .372 average with nine doubles, four homers and 32 runs scored in league games. Price also finished second in the league in total bases (69) in conference contests. The Free State High School graduate won Big 12 Player of the Week honors three times this season and hit safely in 22-straight games – the third-longest streak in KU history.

Kansas senior Cameron Selik (pitcher) and juniors Tony Thompson (third base), T.J. Walz (pitcher) and Jimmy Waters (outfielder) were also named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention.

Kansas (31-24-1) will open the Big 12 Championship Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., against Oklahoma at Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. Streaming live video will be available on the Big 12’s web site: www.big12sports.com.
