Ten Jayhawks Earn All-Big 12 Honors

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Junior outfielder A.J. Van Slyke became the second Jayhawk to earn first team All-Big 12 honors and highlighted a list of 10 Kansas baseball players selected to the coaches’ All-Big 12 team.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Earning second team honors were junior first baseman Jared Schweitzer, freshman Ryne Price, junior outfielder Matt Baty and starting pitcher Kodiak Quick. Junior shortstop Ritchie Price, senior catcher Sean Richardson, junior outfielder Gus Milner, senior starting pitcher Mike Zagurski and junior relief pitcher Don Czyz were named honorable mention.

Nebraska third baseman Alex Gordon was named Player of the Year and Missouri ace Max Scherzer was selected as Pitcher of the Year. Newcomer of the Year honors went to Nebraska ace Joba Chamberlain, Freshman Player of the Year was Oklahoma State outfielder Corey Brown, and Freshman Pitcher of the Year was Johnny Dorn of Nebraska. Huskers’ head coach Mike Anderson was named Coach of the Year.
