Bergmann Claims Third Academic All-District Honor

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday that senior thrower Heather Bergmann was selected to the Academic All-District First Team. The distinction is given to those who excel in the classroom and in their respective events. Bergmann was a first team selection for the third-consecutive season.

Bergmann registered a 3.91 grade point average in her senior year as she pursues a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. In addition to being a standout thrower for the Jayhawks, she is a three-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 First Team and was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic list following both the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

Bergmann, who holds KU’s javelin record, will be throwing in her third NCAA Championships after finishing fifth in the NCAA West Preliminary meet last week. Bergmann will be looking to pick up first team All-America honors for the third time as she heads to the national meet next week in Eugene, Ore.

CoSIDA Academic All-District nominees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and have competed in a standard proportion of their team’s meets
