LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas Track & Field sophomore Diamond Dixon was listed in the season’s final Bowerman Watch List as was released by the USTFCCCA Thursday. The Bowerman Award is given to the nation’s top male and female track & field athletes and will be awarded to the winners later in this summer. Dixon is now one of 10 in the running for the award known as the ‘Heisman of Track and Field’.

Dixon is making her first career appearance on the list as she is close to completing another outstanding season at Kansas. The Houston, Texas native won both the indoor and outdoor conference championships in the 400 meters and also anchored the Jayhawks indoor and outdoor 4×400-meter relay teams that have posted the nation’s best times this year. To close out the indoor portion of the season Dixon earned the national championship in the 400 meters, the first in school history.

Dixon ran to a personal best and school record time of 51.09 earlier this May at the Big 12 Championships, which currently ranks as the No. 2 time in the nation. She has already booked a trip to the Olympic Trials later this summer as she sits as the fifth-ranked American – collegiate or professional – in the 400 meters in 2012.

The Bowerman lists are voted on by a group of national and regional media personnel, track & field statisticians, NCAA collegiate administrators and Presidents of affiliated organizations. The Bowerman Voters represent 23 U.S. states and one U.S. territory.

The ten women’s semifinalists for The Bowerman will be announced on Monday, June 18 and three finalists will be announced on Friday, June 29. The Bowerman will be presented to the winner on December 19 in conjunction with the USTFCCCA Convention in Orlando, Fla. The three finalists will be invited to take part in the award ceremony.
