The distinction is given to those who excel in the classroom and in their respective events. Bergmann was a first team selection for the second-consecutive season.

Bergmann registered a 3.91 grade point average in her junior year as she pursues a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. In addition to being a standout thrower for the Jayhawks, she is a two-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 First Team and was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic list following the 2011 season.

Bergmann, who set KU’s javelin throw record at the Arkansas Spring Invitational in April, will be throwing in her second NCAA Championships after finishing fifth in the West Preliminary Meet last week. Bergmann will be looking to pick up first team All-America honors for the second time as she heads to the national meet next week in Des Moines, Iowa.

CoSIDA Academic All-District nominees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and have competed in a standard proportion of their team’s meets.

In all, 17 Jayhawks, including Bergmann, will travel to Des Moines for the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships June 6-9. Log on to KUAthletics.com to check on their progress throughout the week.
